Update for August 2022 Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan

The full moon parties are back in full swing in the summer of 2022. August is the last month of the summer holidays – and Koh Phangan will certainly fill up for the full moon party in August. Make sure you are prepared!

The last party in July 2022 attracted over 20,000 partygoers from all over the world.  Have a look at some of the things that were happening there:

A signature signboard was set ablaze, spelling out “WELCOME TO THAILAND” for all to see. Dedicated fire performers spun their tools on the center stage, with the backdrop of a glowing full moon in the sky.

What To Expect At The August Full Moon Party?

The August Full Moon Party is on 12 August 2022 (Friday). The date coincides with Thailand’s Mother’s Day (to celebrate the birthday of Thailand’s Queen Mother), hence, there was some confusion if the party will be postponed.

Many partygoers have confirmed with their hotels that the Full Moon party will continue to happen on 12 August 2022. With more countries allowing their citizens to travel freely, it will likely be more crowded than the event that occurred in July 2022.

Needless to say, it will be a fun event with plenty of dance music to party to at the beach’s open mosh pit. Expect trance, reggae, and EDM music as well as live DJs to keep you entertained all night.

Perhaps the adrenaline isn’t enough for some from chugging down buckets of booze and they decided to try their luck jumping over a fire rope and maintaining their streak. There was also a fire limbo testing your back flexibility. It was entertaining to see tipsy and fired-up individuals pushing their limits in the games.

How much is the Full Moon Party?

The Full Moon party entry fee costs 200 baht ($ 6) which you can purchase at the several entrances that lead to Haad Rin beach. You will be given a wristband. If you are a guest at the Haad Rin resort or arrive at the beach before 6 pm, you may be able to get in for free!

How To Get To Koh Phangan?

Most travelers will opt for the many traveling packages offered at Koh Phangan that include accommodation and transport. Thus, hotels and transportation tickets are usually fully booked close to a week before the event. Book more than a week in advance to avoid disappointment.

Some have opted to book their accommodations at nearby islands like Koh Samui and Koh Tao to avoid the exorbitant prices hotels charged for that one night. Plus, what is sleeping on an island that parties all-night until sunrise?

From Koh Samui:

On the event day itself, there are boat services available between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan throughout the night, with boat operators offering services from Koh Samui starting at 5 pm every hour until 11 pm. For a return trip to Koh Samui, services start from 1 am every hour until 5 am.

On other days, daily boat services between the two islands are available at fewer time slots.

From Bangkok:

Your best bet now is to get a sleeper bus or train from Bangkok to Koh Phangan starting on 11 August 2022 to arrive at the beach on the morning of 12 August 2022. Prices are currently $31 for a 15-hour multi-mode transport to Koh Phangan but hurry, they are running out fast.

If you are in a rush and have the budget to spend, you can fly from Bangkok to Koh Samui via Bangkok Airways for a $250 round-trip ticket and take a ferry to Koh Phangan for an additional $6. Cheaper flights go via Surat Thani airport.

Conclusion

The Full Moon party is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that should make it to your bucket list (and fill the bucket up at the party).
